- Bridge Shelf -

This heavy bookshelf is one of my favourite pieces. The timber was sourced from the restoration of an old rail bridge in Mungindi, NSW. The client's father had walked across the bridge to school as a child and so it was very exciting to be able to use some wonderful timber with such sentimental value. The sleepers are ironbark and were treated carefully to preserve the wonderful patina of age and weather while also displaying the deep colour of the grain below. The bookshelf is joined using sliding dovetails and no glue, screws or other hardware is used to hold it all together. When each piece is pressed into place the shelf locks together to form a wonderfully solid bookshelf with huge sentimental value to its lucky owners.
