Seeing a slab of timber this thick reminds me of something geological. There is a feeling I get when climbing around in the mountains where I remember that the rock I am on is more than just its surface. It’s just rock all the way down to the core of the mountain and beyond. A lot of furniture tries to create space. Fine timber sticks surrounding some air. This piece does the opposite. It displays its weight and volume boldly. This piece was developed to be the centrepiece of a large and modern open plan house in the mountains of Victoria and it brings a warmth into the space and draws attention towards the cozy wood fire and matching Oregon sofas.
